As part of my ongoing personal development in photography, I decided to enter the 2013 Maroondah Photo Competition.
My local council, City of Maroondah, holds this competition each year and I like this competition because:
- It has a local, grassroots vibe
- It makes me think about my immediate community as a travel destination
- I get to snap away with my camera!
This year’s brief was simple. All I needed to do was show in my entry what Maroondah means to me. Plus, I had to take my photo in the Maroondah area.
I love our proximity to Main Street, where we frequent regularly for dining, coffee sipping and boutique shopping. So, it was only fitting that I incorporated some Main Street intimacy into my entry. I decided to snap a local’s view of Main Street from one of our favourite cafés.
Here’s a sneak peek of my entry aptly titled ‘Meet Me at Bekendales’…
I entered my photo into the Open section which means I could be in the running to win first prize – a $300 voucher to use at Croydon Camera House. If I come second, I’ll win a season double pass to a production of my choice at Karalyka Centre.
If I don’t win or place, I still walk away with the satisfaction of knowing that I pushed myself to actually enter my work into a competition. My work will be on public display at Maroondah Art Gallery among other hopeful entries from June 20 to July 6.
I’m pretty chuffed about my entry so hopefully I’m in with a chance. I find out the results on June 20.
