The village of Tordi is situated in the centre of Rajasthan, India’s largest state that’s known as ‘the land of kings’. Tordi was a territory ruled by the Khangarot Clan after a regional chief was overthrown by Thakur Akhey Singh in the 16th Century. A fortress was built on top of a hill nearby and some of those who fought in battle with Singh then lived in this village.
Tordi still remains in the shadows of this now crumbling fortress and is orbited by countryside peppered with sandy dunes and rugged bushland. Life here is simple and basic, and descendants of the Khangarot Clan still live here today. There are about 2,500 residents living here.
Tordi is one of the few remaining remote villages existing in India and visitors who wander through the streets of Tordi can get an inner glimpse into this rural, farming life.
