Give the Gift of Vegan This Christmas

The act of Christmas gift-giving is a chance for you to give a vegan gift to someone who might not be vegan, or someone who is thinking about becoming vegan. This is a wonderful time to get that conversation going and pique someone’s interest if they’re curious about the vegan lifestyle. Likewise, Christmas is the perfect time to give a vegan gift to someone who you don’t know and who might be in need.

Here are some great ways you can give a vegan Christmas gift, while sharing an insight into the vegan lifestyle.

Give a Vegan Experience

Research vegan experiences in your city or state and buy a voucher so the person you’re buying the gift for can experience a vegan travel experience this Christmas. Can you book a tour of a local animal sanctuary like Edgar’s Mission? Is there a vegan B&B or vegan hotel you can buy a voucher for? Or, you can research vegan daytrips or city tours? That way, your loved one be a vegan for day, weekend or longer. They’ll get the full vegan experience this Christmas – from food, to accommodation to meeting the animals and carers who rescue them. For a lasting vegan Christmas gift idea for those active family members, why not purchase a voucher to an all-vegan yoga studio or gym?

Purchase a Voucher to an All-Vegan Restaurant, Café or Food Experience

All-vegan restaurants and cafes are popping up everywhere now. So, it’s easy to choose one of your favourite vegan haunts and buy a food voucher to give at Christmas. Many restaurants are now holding special vegan night events so why not book in a spot or two for your loved one? Food is the best way to connect with others over Christmas, so why not make it a vegan Christmas for your loved ones this year?

Create a Vegan Christmas Food Hamper

There is a plethora of vegan makers, now. So, why not create a vegan hamper? When you think of the person you’re giving a gift to, what are their likes and dislikes? Are they a chocoholic? Or, are they are more of a savoury person? Once you’ve decided, then go out and buy a basket and supplies from your favourite vegan makers and producers. Here in Melbourne, all-vegan grocery stores like The Cruelty Free Shop or local markets like Vegan Markets of Melbourne are the perfect places to snap up some deliciously vegan treats. Or, place an online order with your favourite local vegan makers from cheese to chocolate to grocery suppliers and more. Once you’ve filled your basket, wrap it up in something they can use again like an extra-large tea-towel then secure it with a reusable ribbon. Personalise it further with a gift tag hand-made by you.

Donate Vegan Items to your Local Charity or Food is Free Pantry

Christmas is a particularly challenging time for some families, especially this year when many people might be out of work due to COVID-19. Try researching charities in your local area that are accepting food donations and make a donation in the lead-up to Christmas. Shop for your favourite, non-perishable vegan food items and donate them to your chosen charity.

You might also like to find out if there is a Food is Free pantry within driving distance from your home. Food is Free is a worldwide movement of people growing and sharing food freely, whether by planting a front yard garden and sharing the harvest with a Food is Free table, or hosting a Food is Free pantry in their front yard.  Again, shop for your favourite vegan foods and donate them to the Food is Free participant. More of than not, the pantry is located in the front yard and you can drop the items off. Then, people in need visit the pantry and take what they need.
