The April Edition of The Vegan View

It’s that time of the month again when we can put a vegan spin on the latest food and travel news. While we can’t travel too far, we can still dream about those itineraries waiting to be curated in our own countries. We can also dream about where to go when travel bubbles become a reality. These are the points of discussion in the April edition of The Vegan View. Let’s dive in!

Costa Rica introduces Mother Earth Vegan Hotel to travellers

Veganism invites us to ask, but it also asks us to demand. So when we demand, the market meets that demand. Like in Costa Rica this month when Mother Earth Vegan Hotel opened, the country’s first completely vegan and plant-based hotel. Vegan Food & Living reported that everything here is certified vegan, from the beverages to the furnishings and food. Plus, it’s a fully sustainable hotel. This is a bold move for a ‘meat-centric’ country.  The tide is changing.

Travel bubbles are coming for Aussies. Next stop, Singapore?

It’s still early days for international travel from Australia, but Singapore looks like a promising travel bubble destination. According to Travel Weekly, The Australian Government is aiming to set up ‘travel bubbles’ with destinations that have minimal local COVID-19 cases, providing quarantine free travel within these bubbles. If this travel bubble is set up and it’s possible to travel there, then you’ll be spoilt for vegan choice.  Here are my tips on where to go if you do go.

You can have a vegan-friendly fun time at Phillip Island

Another beachside destination that’s closer to home is Phillip Island on the Bass Coast here in Victoria. The region’s tourism website offered a ‘family fun trail’ for visitors. The problem with these kinds of guides is that they almost always leave out vegans. They’re not inclusive enough. If you want my tips to create a fun trail in Phillip Island, then check out my vegan travel tips here.

You don’t need dairy to curate your own travel itineraries

This month, I was dismayed to read the latest partnership between Airbnb and the Australian dairy industry in Delicious. Both parties have come together to put together itineraries for those who feel the need to have dairy at the centre of their travels.

Trust me, you don’t need dairy to travel and you definitely don’t need to support an industry that’s so destructive to the natural environment. Case in point, take a trip to an all-vegan business like The Vegan Dairy here in Victoria. You can also partner your visit with other local vegan experiences, just like I did previously with Melbourne Vegan Tours.

10 New Sandwiches to Try in Melbourne Right Now…Plus one more

Broadsheet recently reported on the stack of sandwiches available in Melbourne that readers ‘must try’. Again, the vegan option was omitted. If you’re looking for a delicious sandwich, just head to Smith & Deli in Fitzroy. This is the place in Melbourne for vegan sandwiches. You can read one of my older reviews of their offerings (pre-Coeliac days), though you can choose from their most current range of hot and cold sandwiches here.
