Bouncing at Flip Out Trampoline Arena is Child’s Play

A non-descript street in Clayton plays host to a large-scale recreation spot full of fun. Flip Out Trampoline Arena is also a suburban destination where Melburnians, like me, can live out their childhood memories all while getting a workout in the process.

I have fond memories of bouncing on trampolines as a kid. While I was never a “flipper” per se, I remember the joy and excitement of bouncing as high as I could in an attempt to beat my cousins and siblings. I also remember those times when I may have misjudged my landing, only to tumble to the ground below or become entangled in the trampoline springs. Still, I had plenty of bruises and spring burns on my limbs to brag about among my friends come the following Monday in the school playground. Aside from some obvious tears, trampolining was…FUN!

While those carefree memories are long ago in the past, it’s easy to relive the thrill of trampolining – in a much safer environment – at Flip Out. Upon arrival, I’m equipped with my own special grip socks so I can channel my inner kid. With so many trampolines to bounce on in the Main Arena, I’m spoiled for choice and skill level. There’s ample room in which to bounce away at my own pace and height, and all springs are padded and protected so there’s no chance of me walking way bruised or battered. I even find fun in jumping off into pools of foam cubes whenever I did bounce too far off on an angle.

Before I begin the bouncing, I’m told by a helpful Flip Out staffer that trampolining is actually a prime exercise choice. Apparently, ten minutes of bouncing may equate to roughly 30 minutes on an exercise bike or treadmill. I think we all know what the hot favourite will be here! I’ve also read that by reliving childhood games and activities you can give your wellbeing a boost while improving your focus and reducing stress levels at the same time. Laughter, as a result of so much bouncing, provides lots of positive vibes and energy too.

I also rediscover that trampolining is a great confidence booster. I not only relive my childhood fun, but I feel my confidence levels rise the higher my bouncing gets. I can’t believe how high I used to jump as a kid, and I wonder how I’m actually alive to tell the tale. I also feel my core and balance getting an instant boost at the same time. Before I know it, I have to stop and have a little rest to catch my breath.

It’s not long before I’m back bouncing again and I’m adding soft balls to my routine. I’m throwing balls at my husband, to my husband and he does the same. There are thrills to be had here, such as diving and jumping to take an epic catch. And who can ignore the temptation of a challenge that the Walk Runner can provide? The trick here is to bounce on your back and literally “walk” or “run” your legs up an adjacent wall to see how high you can get. Some have reached the top, but only a select few.  There’s no harm in trying and challenging your mates.
