The October Edition of The Vegan View

I get excited in October because it means we’re only one month away from World Vegan Day on November 1!

Becoming vegan was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Travelling the vegan road gets easier and easier, and the sense of community increases by the day. This is indicative of the news that comes my way each day.

Let’s get into some of the gems that have come across my desk in the last couple of weeks.

Travelling the High Tees for a greater good

Being vegan means helping those in our communities any which why we can. One way to do this is to support grassroots organisations doing good. Even the ones that are dedicated to human welfare. West Welcome Wagon turns 10 years old this year and they’ve collaborated with High Tees to create a range of fundraiser t-shirts.

West Welcome Wagon is dedicated to helping asylum seekers and refugees rebuild their lives in Australia, by providing material aid and assistance. If you purchase one of High Tees’ fundraiser t-shirts, $10 from the sale goes to this worthy cause. Plus, all t-shirts are made sustainably and to order here in Melbourne.

High Tees also raise funds for the native wildlife rescue group WIRES.

Sign up to the Vegan Easy Challenge

Each year, Vegan Easy collaborates with Animal Liberation Victoria to host the annual Vegan Easy Challenge. Sign-ups are now open!

If you haven’t yet given vegan a go, then 2023 may be your year. To learn more, visit the Vegan Easy website. There’s also a huge event happening at Vegie Tribe here in Melbourne on World Vegan Day, featuring vegan Italian food blogger Nadia Fragnito and vegan recipe developer Zacchary Bird.

The Central Coast is celebrating native pelicans

Pelicans are majestic and inquisitive. They can also be badly affected by marine pollution. Luckily, awareness is building for these beautiful birds.

Pelicans call The Entrance channel and Tuggerah Lakes on the Central Coast in New South Wales home, and visitors to the area can learn more about them.

Marine Wildlife Rescue Central Coast is now hosting educational talks for visitors to the area. They can also experience seeing wild pelicans in their natural environment, while learning about pelicans from trained volunteers who have been rescuing and caring for them for over 30 years.

To learn more about Pelican Time, visit the Central Coast website.

Vegan comfort food brings people together

There’s been a lot of comfort food news of late. From this recipe for vegan mac and cheese by Mindfood to a vegan Spanish tofu scramble by Sanitarium, there’s heaps to feast on.

There’s also a scrumptious banana bread by famous Aussie vegan Osher Günsberg and the good news of ASRC Founder Kon Karapanagiotidis releasing a plant-based cookbook as a fundraiser. The cookbook features his mum’s own home-cooking recipes.
