Bright is Bursting with Vegan Options

Any regional road-trip is fraught with the question: will there be vegan options? A recent trip to Bright towards the Victorian Alps proved that there is!

Bright in Victoria’s north-east is the town before you hit the Alps. If you choose to stay in Bright, you will be rewarded with many vegan options.

Grab brunch at Wild Thyme Café

Wild Thyme Café is where you want to go for a wholesome wholefoods brunch. This is a vegetarian café with a stack of vegan options from meals, drinks, and desserts. Ingredients are organic and the meal servings are generous. Go for the Big Brekkie and a soy latte and sit outdoors, weather permitting. You cannot get any more classic and filling than this. Take your reusable container and fill it with some vegan treats from the cabinet.

Wild Thyme Café, 3 Ireland Street Bright Victoria 3741 Australia. Open 8am to 2pm seven days.

Casual drinks and vegan bowls at Bright Brewery

Bright Brewery is the place to go if you want to hang with others visiting this picturesque town. Come for their locally brewed beers but stay for the tofu bowl or what is on offer on their seasonal menu. Filling and fulfilling, especially after a day of exploring. There are many more options to choose from, too. Just make sure you book a table in advance because this place gets might packed!

Bright Brewery, 121 Great Alpine Road Bright Victoria 3741 Australia. Open 11.30am to late seven days.

Try the Thai food at Suganya’s Thai Restaurant

Not only will you find Thai here in Bright, Suganya’s Thai Restaurant is vegan-friendly and specialises in gluten-free! There are so many choices here that you may need to visit more than once. My recommendations are their Massamam Curry and their Sweet and Sour Stir-fry with coconut rice. Their Satay Tofu is a tasty starter, too. Again, book here in advance to avoid disappointment.

Suganya’s Thai Restaurant, 2/11 Ireland Street Bright Victoria 3741 Australia. Open 5.30pm and 8.30pm six days a week. Closed Mondays.

Cool off with a vegan gelato at Bright Ice Creamery

You know a good thing when they have been around awhile. Bright Ice Creamery is a family-owned business, and they make they gelato daily. Almost all their sorbets are vegan and gluten-free. Alas, they do not have vegan gluten-free cones but grab the taiberry flavour if it happens to be on the menu. It is a gorgeous berry flavour.

Bright Ice Creamery, 109 Gavan Street Bright Victoria 3741 Australia. Open 10am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday, 10am to 9.30pm Fridays and Saturdays, 10am to 5pm Sundays.

Late night mocktails and desserts at Dr Mauve Bar & Lounge

If you want somewhere cosy and intimate where you can sip and nibble, then head to Dr Mauve. Their Asian-inspired menu has lots of vegan-friendly options though their desserts and mocktails are the icing on the cake. You cannot come here without ordering the vegan gluten-free Peanut Butter Parfait with chocolate cookie and lemon balm. Pair it with a Little Singapore mocktail as you sit back in your lounge chair and admire the art deco surrounds.

Dr Mauve Bar & Lounge, 100 Gavan Street Bright Victoria 3741 Australia. Open 4pm to late Fridays to Tuesdays.
