Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk: A Leafier Gold Coast Experience

Long stretches of beach for lazy wanders and a sublime, tropical climate bring many Australians to the Gold Coast in Queensland. Travellers head here to rest and recharge over summer holidays or sneak in a quick escape from the icy chills experienced in Australia’s south over winter. As much as the famed beaches of the Gold Coast tempt travellers for sunbathing and surf, there is a leafier side to summertime paradise.

The Gold Coast Hinterland is less than an hour’s drive from the beach and home to Tamborine National Park and Mount Tamborine. Here, the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is an eco-adventure experience for travellers keen to explore tranquil surrounds and escape the busier side to the Gold Coast beach lifestyle.

Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is set high in the canopy of the Tamborine National Park’s rainforest. Travellers here can embark on a 45-minute walking journey to admire lush, rainforest species and colourful native butterflies floating by. The local wildlife is best experienced from the Cedar Creek viewing platform.

A wondrous, natural part of the walking complex, spanning over one and a half kilometres, are the forest trails leading travellers through the forest floor where shorter species of native plants and mini-waterfalls can be viewed. Enormous roots that anchor the gentle giants of this flourishing rainforest can also be observed. If you’re lucky, the weather could be a little inclement and a spitting of rain can only accentuate this peaceful, rainforest experience.

The complete walk is undertaken unguided so that you can take your time, wander mindfully and take in these peaceful surrounds. The Eco Centre at the start of your journey can alert you to local fauna and flora to look out for, along with bird-watching opportunities in the area.

Hire a car and head to Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk when you’re next visiting the Gold Coast. 333 Geissmann Drive, Tamborine Mountain Road, North Tamborine Queensland 4272.

The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is open every day except Christmas Day from 9.30am to 5.00pm. Last walk for the day must commence by 4.00pm.

Admission is $19.50 for adults and cheaper prices are available for kids and concession card holders. Family passes are available too.
