Eat Vegan at these 5 Gluten-Free Experiences in Melbourne

When I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease a few years ago, I did not think I could eat out confidently again. However, a growing number of gluten-free spots are popping up in Melbourne. Here is where I love to eat gluten-free – and vegan – in Melbourne.

Shop 225

Lorenzo Tron, part owner of Shop 225, has created distinct Italian food in a casual and homely setting. Plus, this is the first pizzeria in Melbourne that has Coeliac Australia accreditation.

You will find a vast selection of vegan options from pizzas, pastas, salads, sides, and desserts. Be sure to arrive with an empty stomach. Check out my earlier review to learn more.

Shop 225, 225 Melville Road Pascoe Vale South Victoria Australia 3044.

ONDA Bar & Eatery

ONDA Bar & Eatery is all about homely Latin American flavours in a swish, modern setting. Come for a few drinks but stay for the vibrant food. Another spot where you do not have to worry about annoying gluten getting in your way.

ONDA is also vegan-friendly which means you do not miss out. Cassava chips, palm hearts, and baked eggplant to caramelised perfection. There is much to choose from. Be sure to leave room for dessert.

ONDA Bar & Eatery, 280 Bridge Road Richmond Victoria Australia 3121.

Repeat Offender

You will find the completely gluten-free Repeat Offender in the heart of Elwood. There are loads of vegan-friendly items to try, or why not go for a big feed at one of their Vegan Fiesta Nights? You can expect a fusion of Latin flavours with tastes from around the world. It is the perfect spot to take your significant gluten-free vegan other to.

If you like your drinks, there’s Happy Hour from 4pm each day, and 2-for-1 margaritas every Wednesday. For the non-drinkers, there are a couple of mocktails on the menu.

Repeat Offender, 201 Ormond Road Elwood Victoria Australia 3184.

Shimbashi Japanese Soba & Sake Bar Restaurant

Have you ever wished you could dive into a steaming bowl of soba noodles? Now you can. Shimbashi Japanese Soba & Sake Bar Restaurant is all gluten-free because they use buckwheat instead.

Loads of vegan-friendly vegan items to get your teeth around from sushi to tempura veggies and more. Or you can go for a quick meal of plates and steamed rice to share. It feels good to be able to eat soba and tempura again.

Two locations:

140 Smith Street Collingwood Victoria Australia 3066

257 High Street Northcote Victoria Australia 3070

Regretless

A good coffee and cake session is one of my favourite pastimes. If you find yourself in the Melbourne CBD area, go for a coffee and cake moment at Regretless. Here, you can enjoy quality time over a plate of sweets and brew without worrying about your dietary requirements.

This cute café is entirely gluten-free, low carb and diabetic-friendly. Yes, it is also vegan-friendly! Their vegan carrot cake and chocolate mousse are surefire go-to sweet treats here. The coffee is also on-point.

Regretless, Shop 13-14 Mid City Centre 200 Bourke Street Melbourne Victoria Australia 3000
