Westfield Knox: A Local Vegan Food and Family Dining Destination

Westfield Knox is a key destination in Melbourne’s outer east where family dining and local vegan food go hand in hand. It’s not often that a destination can be chosen for a family event where all guests can eat in confidence and with tasty options. Westfield Knox’s vibrant and cosmopolitan outdoor Knox Ozone section delivers with a number of spots offering tasty local vegan food options for families dining with a vegan in tow. Here are the tastiest restaurants and eateries at Westfield Knox where there are vegan options on their menus.

Fonda Mexican for Homely and Contemporary Mexican Food

Fonda Mexican made its Melbourne debut in Richmond in 2011 as a result of two mates wanting to bring home their food travel experiences from Mexico. A ‘fonda’ is a home that a family has opened to the local community as a restaurant. So, it was only a matter of time before Fonda made its mark around Melbourne across seven locations. Fonda’s destination at Westfield Knox Ozone was a fitting choice for outer east. Love and family are celebrated through food at the contemporary surrounds at Fonda, and vegans aren’t forgotten in the equation. Look for menu items that are vegan friendly or can be tailored vegan on request, from burritos to quesadillas, tacos and salads.

Hours: Lunch and dinner from Monday to Thursday 11:30am to 9pm, Friday to Saturday 11.30am to 9.30pm, Sunday 11.30am to 9pm. For bookings, call 03 8686 7363.

Oneworld for a World of Tasty Food with a Separate Vegan Menu

What separates Oneworld from other restaurants in Westfield Knox Ozone is its focus on bringing the world’s foods to its guests. A global fusion menu filled with international flavours is what appeals to families who dine here, and Oneworld specialises in larger bookings such as birthdays and milestone celebrations. Oneworld’s separate vegan menu makes vegan family members feel included in the culinary journey with a lengthy choice of dishes from paella, stir-fry, curry, risotto and pasta, soups, salad and dahl. To finish, there’s a choice of vegan apple crumble or sticky date pudding both big enough to share.

Hours: Breakfast, lunch and dinner from 10am to 10pm 7 days a week. For bookings, call 03 9801 8962.

Paesano Restaurant for Traditional Italian Food with Hearty Vegan Options

Paesano Restaurant is a restaurant group that’s achieved success across Melbourne, all starting from traditional family recipes. Paesano Frank Capuzzi’s ‘nonna’ travelled to Melbourne – from Abruzzo, Italy – with the secrets of her family’s homely cooking. Italian cuisine harnesses the benefits of cooking with the freshest ingredients, particularly vegetables and legumes, which seems to have influenced Paesano Restaurant’s decision to introduce a vegan section to its menu in more recent times. Risottos and pasta dishes are customary options, yet a dish as simple and hearty as Paesano’s eggplant caponata is a real treat to enjoy. Family dining is encouraged here, given Paesano Restaurant’s family beginnings.

Hours: Breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday 10.30am to 9.30pm, Tuesday to Thursday 10.30am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday 10.30am to 11pm, Sunday 10.30am to 9.30pm. For bookings, book via the Dimmi website or call 03 9801 2000.

Grill’d for a Casual Dining Choice and Good Burgers

Grill’d has been doing ‘good’ burgers since 2009, and new stores pop up regularly. One of Westfield Knox Ozone’s stalwart food stops, Grill’d, has been serving up burgers since the beginning here. Grill’d has also boasted vegan burger options for a while now, and have recently added a couple of newly engineered options. This is casual dining at its best, especially if you’re looking for a quick bite with your small family that sports a varied range of food tastes or choices. Grill’d’s sides of chips dunked into tomato relish can’t be missed.

Hours: Lunch and dinner from Monday to Wednesday 10.30am to 10pm, Thursday to Saturday 10.30am to 10.30pm, Sunday 10.30am to 10pm. It’s best t to walk up, though you can try to book a space on 03 9801 4666.
